MEN Domescibells

London Bloomsbury Lanes (Punk N Bowl 3)
December 20th 2009

This melodic indie punk trio from Norwich are a new band that are already causing quite a lot of excitement with their energetic and fun live shows and infectious sing-alongs. It's no wonder they were one of the highlights of Punk N Bowl, especially since it was the first time I'd seen them. Influenced by Huey Lewis And The News, smashing facial hair and a hatred of the drudgery of 9 to 5 jobs (a recurring theme in their songs), they're a band whose upbeat tunes and dual vocals are sure to win them plenty of friends this year. If you're a fan of DEVO, Descendents and/or Superchunk then these guys are for you. You can download five songs from here but not the track from this live video. Vocalist/drummer Carl commented on this video:

"This particular song is one we've not yet recorded. We're recording that and another new one at the end of this month, but we're not 100% sure what we're going to be doing with it yet."

THE ARTERIES Shitty Band

London Bloomsbury Lanes (Punk N Bowl 3)
December 20th 2009

Wahey! Another storming song from the mighty Swansea quintet. They blasted through this awesome number as they headlined (well, played last anyway) Punk N Bowl 3 and blew away the crowd who went suitably ape shit, myself included! Miles disappears into the crowd as soon as the song starts and it's followed by the usual driving rhythm, infectious melodies and insane guitar solos. Yes! Far more than just a shitty band!

This song is the opener from the split 7" with The Cut Ups, featuring three songs from The Cut Ups and two from The Arteries. It's green vinyl and comes with a download code. Nice. The record is out now on The Arteries' own new label S.W.F.U!

THE SHITTY LIMITS Taking The Lead

London Bloomsbury Lanes (Punk N Bowl 3)
December 20th 2009

This song from one of the UK's favourite young garage punk bands shows the intensity of vocalist Louis and a crowd suitably lapping it up. Sneering and leaping around the stage, he's a fantastic frontman that has helped to earn The Shitty Limits an impressive reputation for having a killer live show. If you love Angry Samoans and The Sonics then check out these guys. Hopefully they'll play more gigs soon!

This track is taken from their 'Limits Appear' 7", out now (hurry, it's been repressed then it's gone) on Keep Screaming Records.

BROTHERS The Ballad Of Ellen Cherry

London Bloomsbury Lanes (Punk N Bowl 3)
December 20th 2009

Here's another great song from the Exeter punks that consist of former and current members of Dead City Stereo and The Cut Ups. Once Ben is done having his photo taken (jokes), they blast into this rousing This song, "the slow one", shows the power of the dual vocals of Ben and Anna and the powerhouse drumming of Rez. When it speeds up 3/4 of the way through, it's an awesome moment. Getting more impressive with every gig, Brothers are ones you need to check out if you like your melodic punk raw and rocking and bands such as None More Black and Discount.

This song is taken from their debut EP, which you can download for free from their MySpace page!

BANGERS John Shoe

London Bloomsbury Lanes (Punk N Bowl 3)
December 20th 2009

Finally, here's the first of the Punk N Bowl 3 videos! This is a new song from Falmouth's finest, with the working title (although I've been assured it will change) of 'John Shoe'. Roo told me that it's called that at the moment because John of The Cut Ups would like the song/lyrics (can't remember which he said) apparently. Well I'm sure he will because it's another anthemic and raw melodic punk corker from the Cornwall trio with a great guitar line at the end to boot. More Punk N Bowl videos as soon as I manage to sort out my broken/cripplingly slow internet.

This song is set to appear on an upcoming split with San Francisco gruff punks Nothington, due out later this year.
