Leeds Brudenell Social Club
December 17th 2009
It was an awesome night, with Offshore playing alongside The Magnificent, Leatherface and Dillinger Four. This great Leeds/Sunderland punk supergroup (yeah, I went there!) features members/ex-members of the likes of The Dauntless Elite, The Mercury League and Fig. 4.0 and always put on an anthemic and passionate performance. Influenced by the likes of The Clash, Dillinger Four and Cock Sparrer, it's a powerful yet catchy sound. This sing-along shows how their old school/pop punk brilliance and three-way vocals are sure to have you grinning from ear to ear!
This song is taken from their raw but infectious 4-track demo that weirdly, I bought last October in Wayward Council in Gainesville, Florida but have never seen the band selling at gigs. Maybe ask them next time you see them or drop them an email.

CAVES 200 Miles
Bristol The Fleece
December 12th 2009
This new Bristol trio are one hell of a lot of fun and if you like Discount, Lemuria and Superchunk then they're right up your alley. With infectious hooks, big melodies and powerful vocals they're already causing excitement and I loved them when I caught them in their hometown recently. It's not often anymore that you see a band without having heard them and it was a good feeling to be simply blown away by their energy and tunes.
The three-piece of Louise, Michael and David will release their debut 7" through Specialist Subject in mid January, although this track will not feature on the recording. Also, catch them on tour around the UK in January.

LEATHERFACE I Want The Moon / Not Superstitious
Kingston Fighting Cocks
December 13th 2009
A late but hearty merry Christmas to all of you! I've been very busy in the run up to Christmas and since heading back to Chester for the holidays I have been denied the joys of the 21st century (the internet). However, I've managed to get access long enough to add these two videos from the storming Leatherface set in Kingston. Hope you like them (especially Josh) and there will be more videos from all over up before the end of '09.
Both these songs are also taken from 1991's 'Mush', out now on Fire (guess which my favourite album is!).

LEATHERFACE Springtime
Kingston Fighting Cocks
December 13th 2009
This is the smallest venue I've seen Leatherface in and it's probably the best I've seen them too. With a crowd who are understandably well up for the Sunderland gruff punk legends (after all, they don't make it down south too often), it was a blast from start to finish and frontman Frankie Stubbs was clearly loving every minute. His distinctive vocals, shuffle dancing and insanely infectious choruses made this easily one of the shows of the year. And yes, that's Duncan from Snuff on drums too. For anyone that doesn't know, Leatherface were a huge influence on Hot Water Music and the whole Gainesville, FL sound. Anyway, you pobably know so sorry, enough babble from me. Enjoy! There's a little bit of springtime in the back of my mind...
This song is taken from the seminal 1991 Leatherface album 'Mush', out now on Fire. I'm heading up north for a couple of days but if you'd like to see a couple more videos of songs from this stunning show then comment (on the blog please, not the YouTube) and, if there's demand, I'll post them this weekend.

SOUTHPORT Days Like These
Kingston Fighting Cocks
December 13th 2009
Southport are back! With the band reformed and their second album (their first in 9 years no less) released earlier this year, they've been doing what they do best - playing honest and anthemic punk rock in the vein of Leatherface (including the dance moves!) and Samiam. It's good to have them back and here's hoping they gig a bit more regularly in 2010.
This song is the opener from second album 'Armchair Supporters', out now on Boss Tuneage.

ABOVE THEM Give It Up To Start Again / Secrets Of The Original Beerbox
Kingston Fighting Cocks
December 13th
Back from Bristol and straight to Kingston for another incredible gig. Another amazing line-up would see seminal Sunderland gruff punks Leatherface return down to the London area for the first time in years with support from Southport, Above Them, Serf Combat and The 255s. Bring the fun!
This Pontefract trio were on top form, with the likes of these two driving sing-alongs being sung loud by both band and crowd and the eerie green light making it seem like a Hulk convention. These songs are both from the band's debut full-length album 'Blueprint For A Better Time', out now on Inhaler Records.

THE ARTERIES Paying For The Name
Bristol The Fleece
December 12th 2009
The Swansea quintet were on fine form as always in Bristol before their friends in The Cut Ups. This is their latest face-melting concoction of punk and rock, taken from the Art Of The Underground Single Series (Volume 45), which shows that their new songs are pushing their stunning sound even further. The vocal and guitar harmonies and Weezer-esque drum fill are immense. Says it all really.

THE CUT UPS Billy Ocean Blue
Bristol The Fleece
December 12th 2009
My first ever gig in Bristol and it was flawless! Caves, The Arteries, The Cut Ups all supporting D4. You couldn't get three more exciting UK punk bands to support really, with the second two Strike A Chord favourites/regulars and the former (Caves, if I'm not being clear) proving to be a thrilling new local band (video on the way when I find out song title!) and a cool surprise to start to the night.
Exeter's The Cut Ups were on fine form, playing songs old and new and causing some great sing-alongs. Here's the fastest song they've written to date and it's an infectious ripper taken from their brilliant split 7" with The Arteries, out now on SWFU!

THE ARTERIES Nail Scale
London Camden Underworld
December 10th 2009
Yes, yes, it's another Arteries video! But you love them right? Good. Sorry I missed the very start of the song again but the sheer awesome power and energy on stage shows exactly why they can play with amazing bands (in this case Dillinger Four) and more than hold their own. No, I'm not talking about Pugs in just his pants on stage later that night when I say 'hold their own'. Anyway, another killer song from an incredible weekend of gigs. More to come Arteries fans!
This track is from the four-way split 7" 'Brits Abroad', featuring a track each from The Arteries, OK Pilot, Brothers and Bangers, out now on Specialist Subject Records.

OUR TIME DOWN HERE Tony And The Gang
London Camden Purple Turtle
December 8th 2009
Southampton's finest always put on an energetic show that gets the crowd going and this gig was no exception. Blasting through fan favourites old and new almost non-stop (I even missed the very start of this song, sorry guys), they gave it their all. With their Kid Dynamite-loving melodic hardcore punk it's no surprise that they're winning new fans with every show. Catch them live soon and get down the front!
This blazing track is one of my favourites from their debut full-length album 'Live. Love. Let Go.', out now on Banquet.

KEEPING SCORES Phototropism
London Camden Purple Turtle
December 8th 2009
It's been roughly six months since this London melodic hardcore five-piece (and my good friends) last played but you wouldn't have guessed it from this show. It's great to have them back and, although a few banoffee pies have apparently been quaffed by vocalist Ash (his words, not mine!), they're sounding leaner and more anthemic than ever. Here's hoping they write some kick ass new stuff soon and play plenty of gigs in 2010. Score(s)!
This song is taken from their 'Demo 08' EP, available to download for free (if the link works for you) at their MySpace or, you know, message them or something.

VANILLA POD Dead End Town
Kingston Fighting Cocks
November 14th 2009
The Pod are back! They've got a new album that was released in October called 'Poets On Payday' but I'll get to that in a few days when I do the next few posts. For now, here's the second of my classic UK skate punk songs. The Kings Lynn quintet have still got it and blasted through the most energetic set of the night before closing with this fan favourite, resulting in plenty of singing along, finger pointing and fists in the air. Great to have them back again, I hadn't seen them in years.
This song is a single from their 2001 third album 'Third Time Lucky', released through Deck Cheese.

November 14th 2009
Sorry I've been a bit slow to get these ones up but here we go. Thanks to Josh for putting on OCP and Vanilla Pod at the Cocks (and a few other bands), taking me back to my fevered skate punk lovin' uni. days! By all accounts it was a trip down memory lane and I filmed a couple of my favourites - UK skate punk classics in my book. Anyway, One Car Pile-Up hail from the North (Scunthorpe/Lincoln/Leeds) and this driving melodic anthem was the closer (as usual) and is arguably their finest song to date. Here's hoping for a new album. Long live skate punk!

I thought I'd post another video from A,IHN's first full band set in London from a month or so back. Joining Dan and Josh (both vocals/guitar) are PJ (bass/vocals) and Joe (drums). Sounding more impressive and energetic than ever before, I'm a fan of the full band format. One of the UK's best folk punk bands, check them out with their new line-up live as soon as you can.
This song is taken from their self-released EP 'Two Sticks And Six Strings', which is out now. Order your copy from the band's online store. You can also stream the EP now at Punknews.org

THE ARTERIES (Keep On) Trucking
Camden Underworld
September 4th 2009
A favourite of mine, it's another video of Swansea's, actually one of the UK's, finest. This one is the first of a few videos I filmed a couple of months back when The Arteries sounded immense supporting The Flatliners. Initially I wasn't sure whether to just use this blog to post videos of small pub gigs but what the hell, right? The more the merrier. Storming show too.
This track is from their debut full-length 'Blood, Sweat And Beers', out now on Household Name.

THE CUT UPS Jake Versus the Christmas Tree
Brixton Windmill
September 29th 2009
Here's a personal favourite from the mighty Cut Ups from Exeter. With Christmas ads all over the TV and high street, get in the festive mood with this aptly titled tune! Their simply awesome sing-alongs never fail to make me smile and, judging by the band at the start of the video, something's tickled them too. Can't remember what. Anyway, this was a highlight of their anthemic set from late September. Come back to Kingston soon please guys!

DOWN AND OUTS Forever Punk
Brixton Windmill
October 10th 2009
So there seems to be a bit of a post-Fest slump in gigs for me at the moment so, to keep updates coming, I'm going to start uploading some of the second/third songs that I recorded at gigs earlier this year and a couple from gigs I filmed but haven't posted at all yet, for one reason or another.
First up tonight is another video of Liverpool's Down And Outs with their brilliant anthemic, melodic collision of street/pop punk. This was from Lloyd's 40th birthday gig a month ago and was a great night all round.
This song is taken from their 'Forever Punk' 7" which, according to Dead And Gone Records, is out of press. Oh well, enjoy the video friends!

BANGERS Too Many Dark Knights
Gainesville, Florida The Venue side stage (Fest 8)
November 1st 2009
The last day of Fest saw some truly amazing sets and the UK bands played a large part in that. Unfortunately the Venue side stage was really dark but that didn't stop me. Here's Falmouth's finest blasting out their new song from their upcoming Art Of The Underground single (by the occasional light of a camera flash). Sweet! Another incredible anthem from an awesome band.
Soon afterwards they started having technical problems but so many Brits abroad were singing every word that during closer 'The Hard Way' Roo launched into the crowd and abandoned his troublesome guitar. I was going off too much to film it. I think I'm suffering Five Star and Boca Fiesta withdrawals. Roll on Fest 9!

OK PILOT Hot Blood
Gainesville, Florida 1982 (Pre-Fest)
October 29th 2009
Okay, so I have a confession. Due to the usual schedule clashes, chaos and getting involved at Fest 8 in Gainesville, Florida this year, I only filmed a couple of UK bands. If you were there you know how awesome it was and if you weren't then sorry and come next year (if the crusties haven't ruined it for everyone!) I hear all the UK bands there this year were pretty much all awesome and there's videos of almost all of them on Strike A Chord UK already so suck it up. Only joking, come back...
Anyway, here's Exeter's mighty hardcore punk 'n' roll powerhouse OK Pilot blasting out a live favourite from their self-titled debut EP at the Pre-Fest the day before it all started. It was an awesome gig and the 1982 bar is great with old video games to play behind the bar. OK Pilot's EP is out now on Freakscene but you can order your copy directly from vocalist/bassist Chris at their MySpace.

This new London gritty and powerful post-hardcore band is really becoming pretty damn good now, so make sure you check them out soon! Featuring former members of a shit ton of bands, I'm looking forward to hearing them record something, which vocalist Greg assured me was happening soon (after explaining the track was named after his favourite drink). Judging from this soaring song that they opened their set with, it's going to be awesome. Also, thanks for the Strike A Chord UK shout out mate! What a nice bloke and what a promising band.

October 19th 2009
Having formed as a guitar and drums two-piece with guitar and drums and both Dan and Josh singing, London folk punks Apologies, I Have None have recently added a live bassist and drummer and this was their first 'full band' show. It added loads of energy to their gigs and made their sound far more powerful and exciting in my opinion. Anyway, whatever your view, fans of the likes of early Against Me! and This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb should check these guys out. Passionate and honest, it's good, shout-along music.
A,IHN head over to play The Fest in Gainesville, FL (USA) in just over a week and are set to play on Saturday October 31st at Flacos at 11.30pm. Check it out and sing loud!
This song is the opener from their self-released EP 'Two Sticks And Six Strings', which is out now. Order your copy from the band's online store. You can also stream the EP now at Punknews.org

ATTACK! VIPERS! Come Dungeons Deep Or Gallows Grim
Brixton Windmill
October 10th 2009
Another video from Lloyd's birthday gig, Attack! Vipers! were as savage and energetic as ever and it seemed apt that they were the only band of the night to play in the dark. Joe's raw and passionate vocals, Ben's intense guitar work and Mark and Hussey's pummeling rhythm make them one of the most exciting UK hardcore bands. Sorry if this one's a bit too dark for you. Imagine them as night terrors emerging from the darkness and attacking you with their musical assault. Scary.
After Joe had explained how it was about the '80s miners' strikes and says the name of the song, an aggressive heckler shouts "fuck off you slags!", which you can hear at the start. Maybe it was a half-cut Thatcher?
This track is from their 8-track split CD (4 songs from each band) with Austria's Astpai, out now on We Heart Records.

This track is from their 8-track split CD (4 songs from each band) with Austria's Astpai, out now on We Heart Records.

DOWN AND OUTS Chaos Days
Brixton Windmill
October 10th 2009
This Liverpool four-piece impressively mix pop punk and street punk and will appeal to fans of The Bouncing Souls, Green Day and/or Leatherface. Anyway, they're good and they've got two albums and a handful of 7"s under their belts so check them out and catch them live. This was the closer from their set for Lloyd's 40th birthday bash and got people raising fists and voices. Good times.
This song is taken from the band's 2004 debut album 'Boys From The Blackstuff', available now (along with the rest of their stuff) from Dead And Gone Records.

BROTHERS Maths Is My Middle Name
Dorking Lincoln Arms (UK Pre-Fest all-dayer)
October 3rd 2009
For those that don't know, Brothers are another awesome punk band from the seemingly endless pool of great bands from Exeter at the moment. If you're into None More Black and Discount then this raw melodic punk trio is sure to hit the spot. Heading over to rock Fest 8 in Gainesville, FL at the end of the month, Rez, Anna and Ben are sure to blow away the American crowds.
This track is from the upcoming four-way split 7" 'Brits Abroad', featuring a track each from The Arteries, OK Pilot, Brothers and Bangers, out in late October on Specialist Subject Records.

YOU ME AND THE ATOM BOMB Fake
Dorking Lincoln Arms (UK Pre-Fest all-dayer)
October 3rd 2009
This was one of the best shows I've ever been to and it truly went off. Pizza slices, hugs and high fives and a true Fest atmosphere. I filmed a few bands but sadly once the lights went out (and the naked crowd surfing and drunken carnage really took hold!) it's far too dark to make out any of the bands. Maybe it's for the best! Only joking. But I got a couple of videos before then, including this one of Portsmouth's YMATAB. It feels like I haven't seen the Atom Bomb in a lifetime, it's good to see Tim, Hud and Dan back with new tracks. Bring on the new album and roll on Fest!
This song is from their upcoming second album.

OK PILOT Words Of Encouragement
Brixton Windmill
September 29th 2009
OK Pilot are Exeter's finest hardcore punks and any fans of The Bronx and Young Livers will love them. About to head over to the US to tour with the latter, ending up playing at Fest again (here's hoping for another warehouse performance!), OK Pilot are just getting better and better.
Here's some proof - this is a new song. According to Chris this was the first time they've played it live and he said it was technically still untitled but went for 'Words Of Encouragement'. It certainly encourages you to go off.

THE ARTERIES Mutual Friends
Brixton Windmill
September 29th 2009
One of the most impressive live punk bands in the UK, the Swansea boys have done it again with this infectious and melodic, yet punchy, sing-along. Touring like crazy, make sure you catch them any chance you get and prepare to be blown away!
This song is also taken from the split 7" with The Cut Ups, featuring three songs from The Cut Ups and two from The Arteries. It's green vinyl and comes with a download code. Nice. The record is out this Sunday (Oct. 4th) on their own new label S.W.F.U! They're playing a matinee release show on Sunday in Swansea which is sure to be insane.

THE CUT UPS Torches
Brixton Windmill
September 29th 2009
Another belter from Exeter's The Cut Ups. This song is about "how punk can sometimes mean just records and CDs but sometimes it can be something that changes the world". I think that's roughly what Jon said before the song. Playing with passion and honesty as always, this anthem is sure to become another fan favourite. I hope they come back soon.

SERF COMBAT Hand Cast In Music
Kingston Fighting Cocks
September 24th 2009
It was only the one band for Steve's leaving show (Kingston gigs won't be the same!) but thankfully it was Serf Combat and fun was had. A great night. Playing for longer than they've ever played (probably), there was plenty of banter and even a Heroic Doses cover. Here's the first of a couple of videos I shot that night and the only one not to contain intense strobe lighting!
This song is taken from their new split tape with Colt Seavers (2 songs from Serf Combat, 3 from Colt Seavers. It comes with a download code too). Message them through MySpace to order a tape or pick up a copy at their next gig.

OUR TIME DOWN HERE Stolen (feat. The Steal's Mark Pavey)
Kingston The Peel
September 18th 2009
Another new track from the OTDH boys and this upbeat melodic hardcore blast features guest vocals from The Steal's Mark Pavey. Will and Mark's vocal trade offs on the song and on this video, filmed at the last Steal show, show why the Southampton quartet are set to blow your face off. Also, with The Steal calling it a day, Mark's vocals shouldn't go to waste - a new band please!
This song is from the OTDH's debut full-length, 'Live. Love. Let Go.', out October 12th and available to pre-order now from Banquet Records.

ABOVE THEM For Those Who Paved The Way
Brixton Windmill
August 2nd 2009
Another video from the Yorkshire three-piece's show down in the Big Smoke back in August. Plenty of rocking out is done by the guys to this chunky riff and rightly so. Oh and sorry about the bit of another song stuck on the end!
Make sure you catch them with a whole host of other great bands (Duncan Redmonds, The Arteries, Bangers, Brothers, OK Pilot, Calvinball, You Me And The Atom Bomb, Wooderson and Apologies, I Have None) at the Official UK Pre-Fest 8 all-dayer at Dorking's Lincoln Arms Hotel on Saturday October 3rd. Doors are at 3pm and it's just a fiver in. It's going to be a lot of Fest related FUN.
This song is the opener (and download single, out now) from their awesome debut album 'Blueprint For A Better Time', out September 28th (but available to pre-order now) on Inhaler.

THE STEAL No Control
Kingston The Peel
September 18th
Stick a fork in it, hardcore's done! Only joking but this was Kingston/London/Brighton melodic hardcore heroes The Steal's final ever show, having announced it to be so only a couple of day ago, and it went off accordingly. Mark is reading from the londonpaper at the start, which was sharing the event with their final issue, before he, Rich, Dave and Lindsay explode into this ripping opener and send the place crazy! Plenty of stagediving happens. Nice.
I've only got a couple of videos (another one very soon) because I thought 'fuck it, I'm getting involved' and I'm glad I did. Stagediving for the first time in years (really badly!) and being the base (as always) of a human pyramid as The Steal played what was one of the best gigs I have ever seen was amazing. Incredible.
This song is from their amazing second album 'Bright Grey', out now on Banquet.

The Steal RIP. Thanks so much guys. Keep moving forward...

THE SHITTY LIMITS Here Are The Limits
Guildford The GYC
September 17th
With these garage punk favourites playing a hometown show you know you're always going to get an energetic and passionate performance. Louis is one hell of a frontman too. Featuring former members of Crash The Pose, The Left Behinds and TV Party, these guys are the best garage punk band in the UK. I missed the start of this song (blink and you'll miss a Limits song!) but you get the idea. Ignore Steve's neck too. With a string of 7"s and a recently released full length to their name, you need the Limits to appear in your life!
This song is from the 'Here Are The Limits' 7", out now on Static Shock/Sorry State Records. You can download this and their other releases for free on their blog.

THE ARTERIES Remember This
Brixton Windmill
July 7th 2009
Another infectious anthem from Swansea's finest. This is one of my favourites and that guitar solo kills it. They've just got back from a European tour and are playing Fest and have a load of UK shows lined up before heading to Florida for the Fest. Always amazing live, catch one of their shows and sing along. For those about to rock...
This track is from their debut full-length 'Blood, Sweat And Beers', out now on Household Name.

CHILLERTON True Dudes
Kingston The Peel (K Fest 2)
May 31st 2009
I've finally got around to finding out what this song is called (thanks Bailey!) so here it is. Despite the guy in the bobble hat, it's always great to see Jack, Bailey and Greg play. Featuring former members of Jets Vs Sharks (amongst others), check out this Portsmouth/Isle Of Wight/Cambridge trio's 'Bleak Unison' debut album, especially if you love Jawbreaker and Small Brown Bike.
This video is pure K Fest 2 chaos, with inflatables flying everywhere and the grass skirt landing on Craig's head at the end with perfect timing! True dudes all round.
This song is from Chillerton's upcoming 7" on Kiss Of Death.

BREAK THE HABIT Driving Home
Kingston Fighting Cocks
August 11th 2009

September 3rd 2009
This is the last song of their first (proper) gig and, according to Greg before they start, his "personal favourite" so far. Only just starting out, their songs don't have titles yet but it shows why their raw post-hardcore punk shows promise. Featuring former and current members of The Scrape, Beat The Red Light, Fletch Cadillac, TV Party, Visual Offence and PJ & Gaby (phew!), this London quartet already have some gigs lined up so try and catch them live.

THE DAUNTLESS ELITE Ordinary Days (Close But No Seagal)
Kingston Fighting Cocks
September 7th 2009
Another belting sing-along from Dauntless' recent return to Kingston shows why this Leeds four-piece are one of the best punk bands in the UK in my opinion. Sorry that Lee is lurking in the shadows, but that's what he gets for forgetting the first line! Dual vocals (that actually sound different to each other) are always amazing.
This song is from the band's debut album 'Graft', out now on Bombed Out (UK) and Plan-It-X (USA)
You're best off catching them live as they have a website but don't often update it. Check it out anyway.

THE DAUNTLESS ELITE It Takes A Ship To Sail
Kingston Fighting Cocks
September 7th 2009
This was the opener from Dauntless' amazing return to the Cocks. The "awwww!" you hear at the beginning is the response to Joe saying something like, "I really like playing Kingston because it feels like coming home". I've sailed my last ship, now I'm coming home! The Leeds four-piece are one of my favourite UK punk bands and this melodic sing-along is a great example of why. Sorry if the camerawork gives you motion sickness.

The Southampton melodic hardcore boys show progression with this Lifetime-influenced, infectious tune. It's always fun to see Will leaping around!
This song is from the band's debut full-length, 'Live. Love. Let Go.', out October 12th and available to pre-order now from Banquet Records.

CALVINBALL Goodnight Sweet Prince
Brixton Windmill
August 10th 2009
Another song from the Sheffield punks' set last month down in London. Building from a catchy guitar line into a big anthemic finish, this was an amazing closer for their set and I can't wait to see them again now I know it to sing along at the end! Not enough of the mighty 'tache in this video though - it's shown exclusively to the drummer.
The song is from their 'Live Fast, Go To Bed Early' album, which is now apparently sold out. They've got a new 5-track EP, 'Moving Homes And Breaking Bones', on sale soon.

THE DAUNTLESS ELITE I Am Ninja, My Life Is Lonely And Difficult
Kingston Fighting Cocks
September 7th 2009
It's been far too long since The Dauntless Elite have been down to Kingston so it was a massive sing-along for their whole set. Joe, Lee, Andrew and Steve played another amazing show. Just in case you don't know, this Leeds band features former members of Joe Ninety and Fig.4.0 and are one of the best bands in the UK in my humble opinion. For no reason, here's the final song of the night, with another couple of songs on the way soon.
This song is from the band's debut album 'Graft', out now on Bombed Out (UK) and Plan-It-X (USA)
You're best off catching them live as they have a website but don't often update it. Check it out anyway.

It's been far too long since The Dauntless Elite have been down to Kingston so it was a massive sing-along for their whole set. Joe, Lee, Andrew and Steve played another amazing show. FASHANU Yoko Ono vs Bob Hoskins... Go!
Kingston Fighting Cocks
September 7th 2009
I was blown away by this young trio from Durham. Describing themselves as "emo-ish pop punk", there's also a life-lovin' party feel to their songs. Hell yeah! If you enjoy dual vocals (if not, why the hell not?!) then Fashanu are for you.
Incidentally, it's John Fashanu's birthday on September 18th so send him a card.
This song is from the band's new 6-track CD 'Science Is Awesome', out now on Discount Horse Records.
They don't have a MySpace but check this song out at:

THE ARTERIES Major Threat
Brixton Windmill
July 7th 2009
I'm not sure what I enjoy more in this video from back in July - Miles and Jamie headbanging like crazy to such a ripping song or Giles' hug/rugby tackle on Miles! Great stuff.
This track is from the Swansea punks' debut full-length 'Blood, Sweat And Beers', out now on Household Name.

ABOVE THEM Keep Smiling
Brixton Windmill
September 3rd 2009
Hailing from Pontefract in West Yorkshire, this three-piece's rocking melodic punk tunes should see them gain plenty of new fans. The girl who screams and her voice breaks - "good scream", as the bassist (name?) points out. I keep smiling (unforgiveable) because Above Them seem to be getting better every time I see them.
This song is from the band's debut full-length 'Blueprint For A Better Time', out September 28th on Inhaler Records. Pre-order your copy now!

THE CUT UPS These Bones Were Built On Rice
Kingston Fighting Cocks
May 13th 2009
This video from back in May shows Exeter's The Cut Ups blasting out one of their driving punk songs. It's like a personal serenade to Virgins/ex-NMDS frontman Sam at one point. Tourmates love a plenty.
The song is another from their second full-length 'The High And Mighty', out now on Household Name.

MILLOY Less Said
Brixton Windmill
August 2nd 2009
Wakey's finest unleash a welcome surprise here. Jim's laughing at Brigga's constant use of the cowbell that he seemed so pleased to find on the kit. More cowbell! It was great to hear this song live again.
This classic Milloy track is from their debut album 'More Than A Machine', available now from Household Name.

OUR TIME DOWN HERE Four And Ghost
Kingston Fighting Cocks
April 24th 2009
23 seconds in, Ash's face in the crowd says it all. Southampton's finest bring it with this party hardcore anthem and the energy, big sing-along at the end and Will being made to crowdsurf (good work Sean) are normal sights at OTDH shows.
This track is from their debut EP 'Revelations', out now on Banquet Records.

COLT SEAVERS Out Of The Traps
Kingston The Peel (K Fest 2)
May 31st 2009
Another one from K Fest 2 back in May. Great times. Describing themselves as "Black Flag meets Paint It Black mixed with None More Black and a touch of Black Sabbath", it's a pretty good description of the raw, honest and passionate hardcore this new south-east London four-piece unleash. They're getting tighter and more relentless with every show so check them out.
This track is from their self-titled demo, available from their MySpace below. Expect a new release in the near future too.

CALVINBALL Nobody Throws Me My Gun And Says Run... Nobody
Brixton Windmill
August 10th 2009
Hailing from Sheffield, Calvinball can write raw, shouty songs that have guitar lines that embed themselves in your brain. Case in point. Sadly the 'tache has gone now though. Boo.
This song is from the band's debut album 'Live Fast, Go To Bed Early', which you can order here. They've got a new 5-track CD out too!

BREAK THE HABIT So What If We Know All Our Audience By Name?
London Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes (Punk N Bowl 2)
May 10th 2009
Just found this video from Punk N Bowl 2 back in May. Brighton's Break The Habit may be quite a new band but they put everything into their live show and love every minute. You probably will too!
This song is from their split 12" with Bangers, out now on This One's For The Crew.

HIT THE BEACH Stay Between The Flags
Steve's flat, Kingston
June 21st
With covers and some of their own songs played (some of these are still to come once I figure out how to edit down a long video into two to fit on YouTube), Bangers played a couple of old Hit The Beach favourites, after a little persuasion. The tops were off and the dudes were definitely on! Watch Steve crowd surf in his own flat. Good work.
This track is from Hit The Beach's self-titled CD. I don't know if they're still available but check some songs out at:

THE ARTERIES Three Cats
Steve's flat, Kingston
June 21st 2009
Incredible. That's the only word for an afternoon house show in the middle of summer with The Arteries and Bangers playing my mate Steve's flat in Kingston. Well, maybe 'sweaty' too. Spot yourself if you were there and just enjoy if not. Thanks again Steve! Sorry if the footage is quite shaky, I was standing on the back of a couch. Plenty more from this house show to come.
This belter is from the Swansea punks' debut full-length 'Blood, Sweat And Beers', out now on Household Name.

ATTACK! VIPERS! Atlantic Hearts
Kingston The Peel (K Fest 2)
May 31st 2009
Hailing from Southsea, the mighty Attack! Vipers! had the beach clobber nailed. Mark's lifejacket, Ben's sailor costume, Joe's Baywatch t-shirt and Hussey's 'FUCK BANGERS' vest are all the more entertaining when matched up with their always savage and atmospheric hardcore. We're going to need a bigger boat...
This track is from their 8-track split CD (4 songs from each band) with Austria's Astpai, out now on We Heart Records.

BANGERS The Hard Way
Kingston The Peel (K Fest 2)
May 31st 2009
Roo put a bit more effort into the beach theme of K Fest 2 than Andrew and Hamish but he ended up looking like the (skinny) Hulk at the seaside in the green lights, hence the laughter at the start as this realisation dawned. Seaside Hulk punk?
Anyway, Bangers are my favourite new band, with their immense raw pop punk anthems. Formerly they were beach-themed hardcore band Hit The Beach and they live in Falmouth, Cornwall. Enough beach talk - great guys, great band.
This live favourite is from their split 12" with Break The Habit, out now on This One's For The Crew Records.

BIG CITY PLAN Paint The Town Rad
Kingston The Peel (K Fest 2)
May 31st 2009
K Fest returned for its second year of some of the UK's finest punk bands. With former members of Shermer and Redcarpetrobots, Birmingham's Big City Plan may have only formed early this year but this sing-along shows why their Gunmoll-esque sound is more than a little promising.
I don't think this song has been released yet but check out four songs on their MySpace and, in their words, "Get loose, get rad, get gruff!!!"

MILLOY Propofol
London Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes (Punk N Bowl 2)
May 10th 2009
Ey up cocks! As anyone who knows me knows, Milloy have been a favourite of mine for years and they never disappoint live. It was another awesome set to round off Punk N Bowl 2 so thanks again to Wakefield's finest. If you know them you probably love them. If you don't but you're a fan of HWM, Samiam and Leatherface, get involved. The banter should seal the deal.
This track is the opener from their second album 'Creating Problems While Practising Solutions', out now on Household Name.

THE CUT UPS Last Night I Dreamt I Saw Fugazi
London Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes (Punk N Bowl 2)
May 10th 2009
The boys from Exeter sure as hell know how to pen a song that gets the crowd singing and their set was a definite highlight of Punk N Bowl 2. All together now, "we're still here/ but we're not trying!" Amazing fun.
Find this song on their second album, the aptly titled 'The High And Mighty', out now on Household Name Records.

THE 255S Booze Hound

May 10th 2009
The intricacies of this Northwest punk-infused indie/pop rock trio are lost somewhat on this video but any fans of the Weakerthans, Nathaniel Green or Ted Leo should love 'em.
This song is from debut album 'Broadcasting', out soon on a ROIDH imprint apparently. Can't wait guys.

KELLY KEMP Song For Solidarity
London Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes (Punk N Bowl 2)
May 10th 2009
The first of several videos I filmed at Punk N Bowl 2 back in May. An all-dayer of acoustic tunes and punk anthems combined with bowling - flawless.
Sorry, I missed the first verse but this infectious punk-influenced folk track from former NoComply singer Kelly Kemp is a belter so I've posted it anyway.
Find this song on her 8-track EP, out now on This One's For The Crew Records.

Also, Kelly plays in Portsmouth's acoustic country/folk five-piece Livers And Lungs, alongside members of Chillerton and You, Me And The Atom Bomb.

PINK/GLUE We Are Dadaists
Hull The Adelphi
April 12th 2009
Da·da or da·da (dädä)
n.
A European artistic and literary movement (1916-1923) that flouted conventional aesthetic and cultural values by producing works marked by nonsense, travesty, and incongruity.
So that's the title of the track explained if you were curious. This new Hull thrash/garage hardcore punk four-piece are building an arsenal of impressive ragers so expect to hear more from them soon.
Pick up their demo too.

KEEPING SCORES Total Annihilation Of The Heart
Kingston Fighting Cocks
April 24th 2009
Are they "on hiatus" or split up? Who knows. But one's thing's for sure, this London melodic hardcore band showed a hell of a lot of promise. One of their later songs that saw them moving away from the Strike Anywhere and Rise Against comparisons to something heavier and more intense, here's hoping there's more to come from KS.
I think this song was unreleased. Sort it out guys!
